(1) Did John Forrest marry two sisters? John Forrest married a "Lyhua Carpenter (Lydia??" in what is now Randolph Co W Va. The consensus among researchers is that "Lyhua" is Rosina. We know that Rosina was a daughter of Jeremiah Carpenter but did Jeremiah have another daughter named Lyhua? The question is: Could John have married two daughters of Jeremiah (Lyhua and Rosina)?
(2) Who was the mother of John's eldest son, James? And why is there a 22-year gap between the birth of James Forrest and the birth of John's next son, Thomas, in circa 1804? (2) Are Hannah Forrest and Sarah "Sally" Forrest children of John Forrest? Both women, who are believed to be sisters, married in Botetourt Co VA about the same time that John's son James married Mazie Gordon in Botetourt Co. (3) Was John's first name really James? Marriage bonds for both Hannah and Sarah Forrest suggest they had a father named James and a brother named James. (4) Is there a familial connection between the Forrests and the McGlaughlins and Bickles? In Helen M. Lee, Revolutionary War Period Bible-Family and Marriage Records from Pension Applications (Vol 6 - 1984) page 48: "Amos Carpenter married Margaret McGlaughlin, 18 Feb 1803, by Elder Jacob Cozad [Coyad/Corzad) at West Fork settlement, Harrison Co. Va. She was age 76 in 1853. In 1853, Rosina Gilpin gave a statement that she was the nurse of Margaret Carpenter's when her son Jeremiah was born and that she was invited to the marriage but could not cross the creek (West Fork) on account of the high rise. Margaret Bickel/Bickle in 1853 stated that soldier's first wife was her husband's sister. Bounty Land Warrant 26301-160-55.
